London, April 29 — China’s snooker legend Ding Junhui was knocked out of the Snooker World Championship on Monday after a heavy 13-4 defeat to defending champion Luca Brecel of Belgium. Meanwhile, fellow Chinese youngster Si Jiahui secured his spot in the quarterfinals for the second consecutive year with a commanding performance.
Ding Junhui’s World Title Dream Remains ElusiveThe 38-year-old Ding was already on the verge of elimination heading into Monday’s final session, trailing Brecel 12-4. It took Brecel just 15 minutes to seal the match with a swift 71-point break. The Belgian will now face world number one Judd Trump in the quarterfinals.
Despite boasting 15 career ranking titles, Ding has yet to win the prestigious World Championship. This year, he reached the second round for the first time in five years after defeating Germany’s Jak Jones 10-7 in the first round.
Si Jiahui Shines AgainIn contrast, 22-year-old Si Jiahui continued to impress, defeating Britain’s Ben Woollaston 13-10 to book his place in the quarterfinals. Currently ranked world number 13, Si will face a formidable challenge against seven-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan, who advanced after a 13-4 win over China’s Pang Junxu.
The young Si’s consistent performances are earning him recognition as one of the rising stars in the snooker world, as he now eyes a potential semifinal berth against one of the sport’s all-time greats.
