FBI director Kash Patel revealed the latest evidence the FBI found tying Tyler Robinson to the killing of Charlie Kirk, including a screwdriver on the rooftop from where the shot was fired, and a towel that was wrapped around the gun. DNA evidence from these have been sent for processing, and they match with that of Robinson, Kash Patel revealed in a Fox interview. “I can report today that the DNA hits from the towel that was wrapped around the firearm and the DNA from the screwdriver are positively processed for the suspect in custody,” Patel said.
Patel also revealed that Tyler had exchanged a message with someone that said he had an opportunity to "take out Charlie Kirk" he was going to do it. There was a written note saying the same before the shooting, and it was destroyed. But Patel said FBI found the forensic evidence of the note's existence.
Patel confirms Tyler Robinson's motive: Hatred
Patel confirmed that Tyler Robinson's family collective told the investigators that Robinson subscribed to left-wing ideologies, and it became more evident in the past few years. Patel said the motive was hatred for what Charlie Kirk stood for.
In the interview, Patel also defended his move of going to the field despite being the director and not a field agent and said that as he went there and took the steps that the suspect took and found key evidence like the screwdriver and the towel. He said it was prompted by his investigative experience to go to the field so that he knew what he could bring to the table for the investigation.
Patel said FBI assets were on the scene soon after the shooting, securing the place. The agency did not delay a moment in releasing the images of the suspect, and that helped the father to identify his son. “If you look at historical cases like [Luigi] Mangione and the Boston [Marathon] bombing, those two manhunts took five days,” he said. “We apprehended our suspect in 33 hours because we were transparent and open.”
Tyler Robinson has not confessed to killing Charlie Kirk and is not cooperating with the investigators. He even said it was his doppelganger who did it.
