Sydney Sweeney to star in 'Split Fiction' video game adaptation

Sydney Sweeney has been cast in a leading role for the upcoming film adaptation of the hit video game " Split Fiction ," with Jon M. Chu set to direct. The project has also secured "Deadpool & Wolverine" screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to pen the script.

Released in March 2025, "Split Fiction" follows two authors, Mio and Zoe, who become trapped in the fictional worlds they created. According to The Vulture, the game blends elements of science fiction and fantasy as the protagonists navigate through their own creations.

It remains undecided whether Sweeney will portray Mio, the science fiction writer, or Zoe, who specializes in fantasy. In addition to her starring role, Sweeney will also serve as an executive producer on the project.

The film will be produced by Story Kitchen, led by Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson, the production company behind the successful "Sonic the Hedgehog" films and other video game adaptations. Chu's Electric Somewhere will co-produce the project, which is currently being shopped to major studios.

Sydney Sweeney is also starring in Sega 's Outrun video game adaptation
This marks Sweeney's second video game adaptation, as she is also attached to star in and produce Universal Pictures' adaptation of Sega's "OutRun" with Michael Bay directing. Her upcoming projects include Netflix's "The Housemaid," based on Freida McFadden's bestselling novel, and a biopic about boxer Christy Martin.

"Split Fiction" was developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts. The game features a split-screen gameplay mechanics and has received critical acclaim, currently ranking as the third-best reviewed game of 2025 with a Metacritic score of 91. The video game was an immediate commercial success, selling over two million copies within its first week.

No release date has been announced for the film adaptation.
