In a competitive league like the WNBA , romances between teammates rarely flourish; however, Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner have proven that love can thrive even amidst fierce competition! The two superstars, known for their fierce contention and elite performances, are now engaged and ready to begin a new chapter together. The couple’s relationship that began on the basketball court now goes far beyond the arena, inspiring fans across the world. With their love story, they have become a symbol of passion, empowerment, and a solid representation for women in sports.
Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner, a love that started on the courtAlyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner first met in the WNBA years ago. However, they became closer when they were teammates in the Connecticut Sun during the 2020 WNBA season, also known as the “bubble” season. With all teammates living and practising together under strict Covid-19 pandemic rules, their friendship turned into romance.

Their chemistry both on and off the court quickly became a fan favorite. By 2021, they officially went public with their relationship. In 2023, Thomas surprised Bonner with a proposal that quickly went viral online.

Notably, much before meeting Thomas, Bonner was already a sensation in the WNBA. She was drafted fifth overall by the Phoenix Mercury in 2009. Known for her consistent scoring and defense, she helped her team reach the playoffs and win two WNBA championships.

Off the court, Bonner is a proud mother to twins, Cali and Demi, from her past relationship with fellow WNBA player Candice Dupree. Balancing motherhood and professional basketball has not been easy, but Bonner has always credited her family for keeping her grounded.

Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner’s lives beyond the courtEven after DeWanna Bonner returned to the Phoenix Mercury in 2025, her love with Alyssa Thomas remains strong. “We challenge each other every day, but we also support each other. We’re in this together - as players and as people,” Thomas had said earlier this year.

A few reports have also suggested that they have a wedding reportedly planned for 2026. “They’re showing young athletes that you can be successful, authentic, and loved, all at once,” USA Today’s For The Win wrote.

While Thomas and Bonner continue to chase championships on the court, their biggest win is surely their life together!
