Emraan Hashmi’s latest release, Ground Zero, wrapped up its opening weekend at the box office with an estimated total collection of Rs 5.20 crore, according to early figures reported by Sacnilk.
The film had a modest start on Friday, earning Rs 1.15 crore. It saw a slight growth at the ticket windows on Saturday, collecting approximately Rs 1.9 crore. Sunday's business showed further improvement, with early estimates suggesting a collection of around Rs 2.15 crore.
Despite the gradual rise over the three days, Ground Zero’s overall performance remained underwhelming, ending its first weekend on a lukewarm note. The film now faces an uphill task to sustain its momentum through the coming weekdays.
According to the box office predictions, the film was projected to mark one of Hashmi’s weakest openings in the post-COVID era, second only to Chehre, which had debuted with just Rs 50 lakh. The film went on to record an estimated total week 1 collection of Rs 2.05 crore.
Directed by Tejas Deoskar, Ground Zero, based on a true story, chronicles the 2003 counter-terrorism operation that led to the elimination of Ghazi Baba, the mastermind behind the 2001 Parliament and Akshardham Temple attacks. Emraan steps into the role of BSF Commandant Dubey in what has been described as one of his most grounded and restrained performances to date.
The film which opened amidst low buzz and mixed reviews also faced stiff competition at the box office from earlier releases like Akshay Kumar's Kesari 2 and Sunny Deol's Jaat.
