Kanpur: Two people died while 22 others sustained injuries after a Janrath bus travelling from Agra to Varanasi collided with a truck from behind near Rania in Kanpur Dehat on Sunday night. The injured were admitted to the district hospital, while six of them, who were in critical condition, were referred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital.
The accident took place at 1:30am when the bus from Taj Depot Agra crashed into a truck ahead on the Mantora bridge in the Rania police station area. The front part of the bus was damaged on one side. In the accident, the co-driver Bhupendra Singh (52) from Bindu Katra Tukpura Agra, conductor Anil Kumar (30) from Deeh Rajasthan, and 22 others were injured.
Upon receiving the information, CO Priya Singh arrived at the scene with Rania and Akbarpur police. The injured were evacuated and sent to the medical college by ambulance. In the emergency room, Dr Shriprakash declared passenger Rajendra Prasad (60) from Ranjitpura Agra dead. The bus driver Jagveer Singh (50) from Hathras also succumbed to his injuries. Narsingh, Shama Begum, Salim, Mohammad Ehtesham, Alshifa, and Shivraj Singh were referred to Kanpur.
Upon learning about the accident, ADM Avneesh Kumar, along with the tehsildar and naib tehsildar, arrived at the scene. SP Arvind Mishra also arrived shortly after. They gathered information from the patients admitted to the hospital and instructed CMS Dr Vandana Singh to provide better treatment. The bus conductor mentioned that there were 28 people on board.
