UK weather map shows Britain almost completely covered by huge storm - all 76 cities hit

The UK could be blasted by heavy rain later this month, as radar indicates the whole country could be struck with brutal storm-like conditions. WX Charts is predicting almost everywhere in the UK could see rain on May 24, with southern England bearing the brunt of the soggy conditions.

The deluge is predicted to hit all 76 UK cities at some stage on May 24, however the heaviest of the rain will be around the capital early in the morning. Cardiff and Edinburgh will both be hit with rain too, and although Belfast should remain dry during the day, the early hours of the morning will be wet.

By noon, south-western areas are more likely to be dry, but south-eastern areas may remain very wet. So too will Scotland. In particular the Midlands, and counties like Kent and Essex could continue to be drenched.

The radar suggests that every corner of the country could see rain on May 24, but a forecast at such long-range may change dramatically, so some areas may miss the wet weather, if it arrives at all.

The Met Office, however, does note the risk of thunderstorms later in the month, without specifying the date. The national forecaster said in its long-range prediction: "There is an increasing chance that conditions will turn more unsettled from late next week though, as areas of rain and strengthening winds threaten from the west and/or south (the latter bringing a risk of thunderstorms)."

Early in the morning on May 24, the UK could also see freezing conditions in patches. According to WX Charts, most of Northern Ireland could be sub-zero around 6am, so too could north-eastern Scotland, and a small area of the Midlands, and Merseyside.

This Evening and Tonight:

Showers will gradually fade this evening. Dry for many with some late sunshine, and turning chilly overnight under clear skies. Low cloud, mist and patchy fog will affect northern and eastern Scotland and northeast England.

Wednesday:

Patchy low cloud will linger around northeast coasts. Dry for most with sunshine, however a few showers are possible in the southwest. Warm for many, but cooler in the east.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Largely dry, warm and sunny. Low cloud will linger around eastern coastal counties at times, where it will feel cooler with an onshore breeze.
