Despite enduring a shaky start to the , is still likely to hit an exciting career milestone during his time at Quail Hollow. However, the achievement is not linked to his on-course career.

DeChambeau is edging closer to hitting two million subscribers on YouTube, growing his following consistently with an abundance of content on all of his social media channels, such as TikTok and Instagram. The American started his channel in 2021 and has continued to attempt to grow the sport of golf, with his hole-in-one over his house challenge and other light-hearted games with his friends.

Speaking about his channel last month, he said: "It's great. YouTube golf has made me feel like a kid again. When I started out, I was like, man, this is going to be a lot of work.

"And once we started putting in challenges that were fun and interesting and different, it kind of made me feel like I was that, you know, 11-, 12-year-old going out with your friends and just trying to play as good as you can and do something crazy and different.

"I'm actually focusing myself and saying: 'Hey, you're on camera, you have to execute. There's nothing else you can do besides play your absolute best. So it gets me in a really cool mentality, as well. It's been a great benefit."

DeChambeau even credited his strong early start at the Masters to his renewed focus thanks to YouTube, but he has not been able to replicate those promising signs at the PGA Championship this week though. Like many players, he has struggled with mud balls.

A late bogey prompted the 31-year-old to head to the driving range after his even-par 71 opening round on Thursday along with four of his rivals to hit some more balls. Mud balls have been at the heart of conversations at Quail Hollow since play got underway, and there is a growing feeling that they will become more of an issue as time goes on.

Asked if he was affected by them, DeChambeau said: "I did. You just have to manage your ball a little bit better. It's not easy. I hit a couple of shots where the ball was just overcurving and you've just gotta go, 'OK, just got to play it more out one way', and everyone has to deal with it."
