"White vinegar was our go-to. You just soak a cloth in it, wrap it around the tap, and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes."

Anne revealed that this technique "cuts through" limescale, leaving a beautiful shine in its wake.

The key, she noted, was to follow up with a gentle polish using a microfibre cloth.

As Anne pointed out, "White vinegar is naturally acidic, which helps dissolve mineral deposits without damaging the finish.

"Because it's something many people already have in their cupboards, it's a cost-effective alternative to specialist cleaners."

When used correctly, this trick is suitable for chrome, stainless steel, and many brushed metal finishes.

However, Anne advised checking the manufacturer's care guide if you have a coloured or speciality coating.

She added, "People often assume the royal household relies on luxury products for everything, but we relied on practical methods that delivered results, and that anyone can use."

To tackle limescale at home, drench a clean cloth in white vinegar, snugly wrap it around the tap, and let it work its magic for 10 minutes.

"Wipe away residue with a damp cloth, and then dry and polish for extra shine."
