Sarva Pitru Visarjani Amavasya: Although every Amavasya is a death anniversary for ancestors, the Amavasya of the Ashwin month is extremely fruitful for ancestors. This Amavasya is also called Sarva Pitru Visarjani Amavasya, i.e., Mahalaya, for the person who is unable to perform Shraddha in the 15 days of Pitru Paksha, and for the ancestors whose death date is not known, Niradhar, Tapasvi, Bali, etc., are performed on this Amavasya. In the Vishnu Dharma Sutra, Pinddaan is said to be mandatory on this day, because this is the last date of Pitru Paksha.
When to perform Shraddha
'Shraddha Kutap Vela' is considered best for Shraddha rituals. Kutap Vela is the eighth Muhurta of the day, which lasts from 11:36 to 12:24 in the day. Shraddha, Pitru Tarpan, etc., rituals are considered best in this time period. On this day, Gangashraya Shraddha and proper tarpan of Shraddha in the mountains are especially meritorious. According to Shraddha Mahatmya in Garuda Purana, this is the main feature of Shraddha. The fruit of Shraddha directly reaches the ancestors. Also, in the five sacrifices section, the place of humans, cow, dog, deity, and ancestors has been mentioned.
Women can take a pledge and offer Tilanjali in Shraddha. They are also considered in the form of men.
As per the Shraddha method, meditate on the ancestors, take rice or black sesame in the hand, and take a pledge of Shraddha. On this day, feed the Brahmins and donate to them as per your capacity. Then, by performing Shraddha Tarpan dedicated to the ancestors, the ancestors should be satisfied with devotion.
While performing Shraddha of ancestors, take this resolution- 'I am performing the Shraddha of so-and-so ancestors according to the rules. Please accept it.'
On the day of Shraddha, recite Shrimad Bhagwat Gita, Garuda Purana, etc. While offering Pinda at the time of Shraddha, say- 'Om Somay Pitrimate Namah', 'Om Pitrubhya Namah' while offering Pinda. Then offer Tarpan, the offering of sesame seeds offered with an anjali reaches the ancestors. The ancestors are invisible and they are gods. Please protect our family. Do good to us. Forgive us for the mistakes committed unknowingly.
