The post, shared by an employee on Reddit, revealed how they were placed on a Performance Improvement Plan ( PIP) just five months after joining a new company. The reason? They refused to work on weekends and during their approved leave.
The employee, using the username 'iamsadsometimes1', described their workplace as having a six-day work week. They said their manager expected them to work even on Sundays to meet very tight deadlines.
The employee wrote, "First things first, my organisation only has a Sunday off. On top of that, my manager has expectations that we spend 5-6 hours on Sundays as well to meet the very rigid deadlines that have been set for us."
The employee also spoke about the difficulty they faced when asking for time off. After a lot of debate, they were finally given four days of leave. However, the manager allegedly still expected them to complete their work targets during the break. When the employee said it would not be possible because they were travelling, the manager reportedly replied, “I’d like to see that.”
When the employee returned from their leave, they noticed that the manager was cold and distant. Later that same day, HR called them to say their performance was not good enough and that they were being put on a PIP.
The employee shared, "This is just so messed up; I can't understand how this could even be legal. Do organisations have such power that they can do whatever they want?"
