Jos Buttler, the English maestro now starring for Gujarat Titans, offered rich praise for the Indian Premier League (IPL), calling it a true breeding ground for young talent. In a recent chat on JioHotstar’s ‘Gen Gold’ series, Buttler spoke warmly about how the IPL has shaped India's new generation of cricketers.
He particularly admired Shubman Gill, calling him "a classy player and a calm leader," with strong communication skills that connect him with everyone. Buttler also described the IPL as a "brilliant academy," where young players sharpen their skills alongside global superstars without losing their individuality. Buttler said,
“It’s amazing exposure for young players to perform under high pressure and expectations. As overseas players, we can’t fully grasp the pressure they face, but they handle it brilliantly. Shubman looks a classy player and a calm leader – a great communicator who connects with everyone. IPL has been an incredible academy for young talent, offering them the chance to learn from top players and coaches, while still encouraging them to stay true to themselves."

Switching to Gujarat Titans this season in a high-profile ₹15.75 crore move, Buttler expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from the franchise. He pointed to familiar faces like Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki, with whom he had crossed paths during county cricket in England. He also praised Head Coach Ashish Nehra, describing him as calm beneath his animated surface Buttler shared,
“I knew Vikram a little from England, having played against him and during his time at Surrey, so it’s nice to have that connection here. I’d heard a lot about Ashish Nehra too – he looks animated on the boundary but has everything under control. One of the best things about IPL is meeting new people, learning different styles, and I’m excited to work under them."
One of the most heartwarming parts of Buttler’s reflection was about his bond with Sanju Samson, his former Rajasthan Royals captain. concluded,
“I’ve had a great relationship with Sanju over the years, learning a lot from him and watching how he goes about things."
Even though he has moved to a new team, he promised that those memories and friendships will stay with him forever.
