Bijapur (Chhattisgarh) [India], November 4 (ANI): Canine Dipsy, an Indian breed sniffer dog of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), on Tuesday received praise from officers for her bravery and IED detection skills after being mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 'Mann Ki Baat' episode.
Latif Sahu, the Commandant of the 228th Battalion of the CRPF, noted that it is Prime Minister Modi's vision to promote Indian breeds, as Dipsy can be effectively utilised for breeding due to her ability to remain healthy for a long time.
"It is the vision of PM Modi that he promoted the Indian breed and this breed can be used efficiently due to its feature of not falling ill for a long time," said Latif
Sahu highlighted Dipsy's adaptability to hot and humid weather, as well as her exceptional endurance. "Dipsy, an Indian breed, can easily adapt to the hot and humid weather. Mudhol Hound performs well for a long time without falling ill. Dipsy is a sniffer and trained for long patrolling as well as IED detection," said Sahu.
The canine has saved the lives of CRPF personnel on two occasions by detecting improvised explosive devices (IEDs), earning her the title of hero of the battalion. Her bravery has earned the battalion increased respect, especially after Prime Minister Modi highlighted her achievements during his 'Mann Ki Baat' program. This recognition made the entire battalion feel proud and happy.
"Dipsy has detected IEDs two times, saved the lives of officers...Dipsy was the hero of our battalion, which has enhanced our respect, when PM Modi in the Mann Ki Baat episode talked about her bravery. The whole unit is happy, said Latif.
Shedding more details about Dipsy, the handler of the dog, and Constable Pyarelal said that during a patrol last year, the canine indicated the presence of an improvised explosive device (IED). Following this, the Bomb Disposal Squad and the Deep Search Mine/Metre Detector team located the bomb and safely disposed of it, thereby saving the lives of security personnel.
Being an Indian breed, Dipsy has extraordinary endurance and did not get fatigued while covering long distances, said the constable.
"The canine did not fall sick for a long time and enthusiastically performed the assigned task, said Pyarelal.
The constable further explained that Dipsy, regardless of the season, whether summer, winter, or monsoon, can adapt to all types of weather. This breed of canine does not require any special diet.
Meanwhile, following the eradication of armed naxalism by March 31, 2026, as per the central government in Chhattisgarh, Dipsy's bravery and contributions in the fight against naxals will be prominently recorded in history.
According to Sahu, the CRPF's 228th Battalion shares a close bond with its canine members. He elaborated that during a recent operation, a dog named Rolo made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the line of duty. In his memory, a hall at the unit headquarters has been dedicated to Rolo.
"Canines are an inseparable part of forces, and they are very useful, said Commandant Sahu.
Dipsy is a sniffer dog trained for long patrols and IED detection. She is part of the 228th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and is deployed deep in the forests of Bijapur district, near the border with Telangana.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently acknowledged this Indian breed of dog in the episode of 'Mann Ki Baat.' In the programme, the Prime Minister praised Dipsy for her courage and heroism in detecting IEDs planted by Naxals, which has helped save the lives of both security personnel and local residents.
